Handmade transfers for clay and porcelain with Monika Martykánová
Saturday and Sunday, 18th + 19th January, 9:30 - 13:00
In this course, Monika will teach you a simple technique for decorating porcelain or ceramic pieces by making your own blue transfer/ stencil. There are many different techniques for making image transfers on clay. This one allows you to make your own, personalised transfer paper, similar to the rice paper transfers that are available commercially.
Please bring a few bisque fired pieces with you to the course. If you are unable to do this, please let us know so that we can organise some vessels for you.
This workshop will be held in English.
Monika is currently studying in the Ceramics and Porcelain Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague under Maxim Velčovský and Milan Pekař.
Two of her works are part of the collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague.
Her works have been exhibited at Designblok as part of selected young artists Erste talent display in Prague, London design festival, Grassi Messe in Leipzig and in Vienna at the Czech Center. Her most recent work appeared in Japan as part of the Isetan exhibition, in collaboration with Japanese illustrator Saki Matsumoto.
In collaboration with the Rako company, Monika developed an impressive series of grafitti tiles as prototypes.
Her works are inspired by traditional crafts applied in modern ways and contemporary themes, dealing with the fragility of a material and exploring its limits. Some topics in her work comment on modern society, such as the role of women or animal rights.
She is also an award-winning tattoo artist working at the well-known Prague Tribo tattoo studio.
