Enjoy an inspiring talk at rami by the renowned artist Jindra Viková

Apart from explanations about various ceramic techniques, Jindra Viková will remind us about the thousands of possibilities for expression that clay and porcelain offer not only through surface design or beautiful forms, but also its ability to combine painting and plastic arts.

„The path to freedom is in going beyond the material limits and expressing a feeling, this gives the artwork your personal message and unique existence."

Jindra Viková was born in Prague in 1946, where she studied at the University of Applied Arts. She has received various prices for her work such as among others the Gold Medal at the international ceramics competition in Faenza (Italy); the Grand Prix Triennale de la porcelaine in Nyon (Switzerland) or the Jury Award at the 1st World Ceramic Biennale in Icheon (South Korea). Jindra is a member of the IAC (International Academy of Ceramics) and is regularly participating since 1986 in ceramic symposia and exhibitions.

We are looking forward to an exchange of ideas, many questions and a nice summer evening together with Eva Pelechová, who is coming to Vienna to teach the rami Summer School!
Eva Pelechová engages in free ceramic sculpture and porcelain design with conceptual overlap. The main motives of her free creation are material and process analysis as well as experimental approaches combining material properties and technologies. She regularly participates in international ceramics symposia and her works can be found in many international art collections. In 2011, she and her colleague Gabriel Vach founded the brand Hidden Factory, which focuses on small-scale porcelain production, which aims to reflect the Czech tradition of porcelain and its current production. In 2017 she took over the organisation of the International Bechyne Ceramics Symposium, which seeks to intensify cooperation with foreign institutions and the 'world' of free art.

ARTIST TALK: Erik Haugsby and Anja Slapničar - wild clay

Saturday, July 13th, 18:30
FREE ENTRY! Talk in English. Register by sending an email to

The first Artist Talk of 2019 will be all about wild clay! We’ve invited two very special ceramicists that share a passion for using natural materials that they've found themselves in their artwork. Erik Haugsby lives and works in Vienna. He finds, collects and works his clay in Austria, using a kick wheel and firing in his electric kiln as well as in different wood-fired kilns around Europe. Anja Slapničar lives and works in Ljubljana. She knows where to find clay for her ceramic pieces all around Slovenia. She recently renovated her studio using materials that are as natural as possible. Together the artists will shine some light on their work processes, the differences between them and introduce you to the world of 'going natural' within the ceramic art sphere. The magic of wood-firing, digging up clay, and endless material testing will be discussed - bring any questions you may have and take advantage of this special evening!
